- Sierra Nevada is only 30 kms (about 20 miles) away from downtown Granada. Sierra Nevada is the first sky resort in Spain and arguably among the best in Europe. - La Alpujarra, is about 40 kms (35 miles) away from Granada, in the mountains between Sierra Nevada and the Granada Coast Line. La Alpujarra is a group of traditional towns among the Granada mountains. Gastronomy here is traditional: ‘Plato alpujarreño’—the Alpujarreño Dish—(eggs, ham, potatoes, chorizo sausage and green pepers) and ‘Vino de la costa’—Wine from the coast—will give more than a good start for wild life sports and hiking.
- Alhambra y Generalife. The Alhambra—The Red Castle—was the last Muslim stronghold in Spain and by now a unique symbol of the city of Granada. One of 21 world finalists for the title of New Seven Wonders of the World and together with Albaicin and Generalife, the Alhambra has been declared a UNESCO’s Patrimony of Humanity. Generalife, featuring beautiful gardens and water fountains, was the Calif’s summer quarters during the times of Muslim rule
- El Albaicín, at the heart of the old quarters of Granada, was once the Muslim-Jewish neighborhood in the city. Its picturesque squares, narrow streets, distinctive architecture, and beautiful cármenes (villa-style residencies) are a focus of main interest for visitors. Mirador de San Nicolás should not be missed. From here, the visitor will be struck by an spectacular view of the Alhambra and Generalife, escorted by Sierra Nevada in the background, the entire city at the Alhambra hill foot, and the crop fields of La Vega further into the valley.
- El Sacromonte, next door to Albaicín, is Granada’s Gypsie neighborhood. In its traditional cave-homes the visitor will be treated to the best expressions of Flamenco dancing.
- La catedral of Granada is one of the largest and most impressive in Spain. Of renaissance and baroque style, la catedral is another place that should not be missed. ‘La Capilla Real’—The Royal Chapel—next door to the Cathedral, is now home to the graves of Ferdinand and Isabelle, the Catholic King and Queen.
